The annual tennis tournament wasn’t garnering the attendance that it deserved. Through a simple melding of the prestigious “Wimbledon” and the host city’s name, Wimbletoon was born, along with all kinds of innovative guerrilla marketing – fuzzy green posters, vehicle decals shaped like tennis balls breaking through the window, even tennis-ball truck nuts.
